Three Electric Motors Deliver 1,030 HP

At the heart of the Jaguar Type 01 is a tri-motor powertrain featuring two electric motors at the rear and another at the front. The setup generates a combined 1,030 hp and 1,365 Nm of torque, making it the most powerful production car in Jaguar’s history.

Despite an estimated weight of around 2.7 tonnes, the electric grand tourer can accelerate from a standstill to 100 km/h in just 3.2 seconds. Jaguar also quotes a 100–180 km/h acceleration time of approximately four seconds, highlighting the car’s ability to deliver strong performance beyond initial acceleration.

The mechanical package includes torque vectoring, air suspension, multiple driving modes and twin-valve active dampers. Rear-wheel steering is another important feature, helping bring the turning circle down to approximately 11.5 metres despite the vehicle’s substantial size.

Large Battery Promises Up to 720 km of Range

The Type 01 uses a 120 kWh nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) battery, with approximately 118 kWh available for driving. Jaguar claims a maximum WLTP range of 720 km, while the US-market EPA range target stands at around 400 miles.

Its 850-volt electrical architecture supports DC fast charging at up to 350 kW. Under suitable charging conditions, the manufacturer says the battery can gain up to 321 km of range in 13 minutes, while charging from 10% to 80% is expected to take approximately 22 minutes.

Another practical detail is the provision of charging ports on both sides of the vehicle. This arrangement gives owners greater flexibility when parking at charging stations, regardless of which side faces the charger.

Actual charging performance and driving range will depend on factors such as ambient temperature, charging infrastructure, driving conditions and battery state of charge.

An Unconventional Battery Layout Shapes the Design

Jaguar has taken a different approach to battery packaging in the Type 01. Rather than relying on a single conventional skateboard-style battery pack, engineers have distributed the battery across five separate modules positioned at different points within the vehicle.

This configuration was developed to preserve the concept car’s low-slung proportions while providing sufficient footwell space for rear passengers. It also allowed the design team to work around the requirements of the long bonnet, low roofline and extended wheelbase.

The result is a vehicle whose proportions are central to its identity, rather than a design dictated entirely by the packaging requirements of a conventional electric platform.

Production Design Retains the Type 00 Concept’s Identity

The Type 01 carries forward much of the visual character introduced by Jaguar’s Type 00 concept. Its exterior departs considerably from the brand’s previous production models, adopting a cleaner and more distinctive design language.

At the front, the new horizontal strikethrough graphic is paired with extremely slim headlamps and four distinctive daytime-running-light elements. Active cooling shutters are integrated into the lower front bumper.

The car rides on 23-inch wheels and combines an approximately 3.2-metre wheelbase with an overall height of around 1,400 mm. These proportions give the electric GT its unusually long, low silhouette.

The production model therefore remains closely aligned with the concept’s design direction, while incorporating the functional elements required for a road-going vehicle.

Aerodynamic Efficiency Takes Centre Stage

Jaguar claims a drag coefficient of just 0.23, making the Type 01 its most aerodynamic production road car so far. The low drag figure is supported by flush body surfaces, active aerodynamic elements and a deployable rear spoiler.

The spoiler can move between three positions according to speed and driving requirements, helping balance aerodynamic efficiency with high-speed stability.

These measures are particularly relevant to an electric vehicle, where aerodynamic resistance can have a significant effect on energy consumption and driving range.

Digital Rear Visibility Replaces the Rear Windscreen

One of the most striking features of the Type 01 is the absence of a conventional rear windscreen. Instead, a rear-facing camera provides the view through a digital rear-view mirror.

Jaguar’s explanation is that the low roofline and steeply sloping rear bodywork would restrict visibility through a traditional window. A solid rear panel was therefore chosen as part of the overall design.

At the rear, the horizontal strikethrough theme continues into the tail-lamp arrangement, maintaining visual consistency with the front-end treatment.

Four-Seat Layout Creates an Individualised Cabin

The Type 01 features four doors and four seats, with an interior that moves away from the layout traditionally associated with executive luxury sedans.

A prominent central spine runs through the cabin, visually dividing the interior into individual spaces for the four occupants. The arrangement reinforces the car’s grand touring character and creates a more distinctive environment for both front and rear passengers.

The cabin follows Jaguar’s previously presented Exuberant Modernism design philosophy, combining a low driving position with an enveloping cockpit and a minimalist approach to interior design.

A 24-Inch Display Leads the Digital Experience

Technology is a central element of the Type 01’s cabin. The dashboard incorporates a 24-inch display that combines the instrument cluster and infotainment functions.

Driver information is positioned towards the right side of the display, while passenger-oriented functions occupy the left. A touchscreen controller for rear occupants is integrated into the central spine.

The front seats also feature heating, ventilation and massage functions. Jaguar has kept conventional physical controls to a minimum, placing greater emphasis on the digital interface and the overall visual simplicity of the cabin.

Design Priorities Bring Some Practical Compromises

The Type 01’s proportions and styling come with certain practical trade-offs. Its low roofline and small rear windows contribute to a more enclosed rear passenger environment, while getting in and out may be less straightforward than in a conventional luxury sedan.

Luggage capacity is approximately 450 litres, with additional storage available beneath the boot floor. While this provides useful space for a grand tourer, the model’s priorities remain focused on design, performance and exclusivity rather than maximum practicality.

The Type 01 is consequently positioned as a distinctive luxury GT instead of a conventional executive limousine.

Jaguar Electric Architecture Will Underpin Future Models

The new Jaguar Electric Architecture is more than a platform for a single vehicle. It has been developed specifically for Jaguar’s future electric portfolio, allowing engineers and designers to work around the proportions and characteristics of an EV from the outset.

According to Jaguar, this dedicated architecture enabled the Type 01 to achieve its distinctive exterior dimensions without adapting an existing platform originally designed for a different type of powertrain.

Future Jaguar models are expected to build on this underlying architecture as the company transitions its portfolio towards fully electric vehicles.

What Does the Type 01 Name Represent?

Jaguar has attached specific meanings to the three elements of the Type 01 name.

  • Type: A reference to the naming tradition associated with notable Jaguar models from the past.
  • 0: Represents zero tailpipe emissions.
  • 1: Identifies the vehicle as the first model in Jaguar’s new generation.

The name therefore connects the brand’s heritage with its transition to an all-electric future.

Jaguar Targets a More Exclusive Luxury Segment

The Type 01 signals a repositioning of Jaguar towards a more exclusive part of the luxury market. Rather than focusing on direct competition with high-volume premium manufacturers, the company intends to establish a stronger presence between established luxury brands and ultra-luxury marques.

International pricing is expected to begin at approximately £120,000, placing the Type 01 well above the price positioning of Jaguar’s previous mainstream luxury offerings.

Potential competitors include the Porsche Taycan and Audi e-tron GT, alongside other high-performance electric grand tourers. The Type 01’s combination of output, long-distance range, unusual proportions and four-seat configuration will be central to its positioning in this segment.

Jaguar Type 01: India Launch Expectations

Jaguar has not confirmed an Indian launch date or official pricing for the Type 01. The company plans to open global orders in early 2027, with initial customer deliveries expected in the second half of the same year.

Given Jaguar Land Rover’s existing presence in India, the model could be relevant to the country’s premium electric-car market. However, its availability, India-specific specifications and pricing remain unconfirmed until the manufacturer makes an official announcement.

The Beginning of a Different Jaguar Era

The Type 01 represents a significant departure from Jaguar’s previous approach to luxury cars. Its tri-motor powertrain, 1,030 hp output, claimed 720 km WLTP range and dedicated electric architecture combine performance-focused engineering with an unconventional design.

Just as importantly, the model establishes a new direction for the brand’s styling, cabin technology and market positioning. With global orders expected to open in early 2027, the Type 01 will be a key test of Jaguar’s ambition to redefine itself as an exclusive, all-electric luxury marque.
