Ultraviolette Automotive is preparing for its next major phase of expansion with plans for a new manufacturing facility in Hosur, Tamil Nadu. The upcoming plant, called the BIGGA Factory, is being planned to support production of the Tesseract electric scooter while also creating manufacturing capacity for Ultraviolette’s future range of electric two-wheelers.
The name BIGGA stands for “Big Global Ambition”, reflecting the company’s plans to increase production and strengthen its presence in both Indian and international markets.
The facility will come up at the SIPCOT Industrial Park in Shoolagiri, Hosur, with the Tamil Nadu government facilitating the land allotment. Ultraviolette plans to gradually build the factory’s capacity to 2.5 lakh vehicles annually, while the infrastructure will be capable of being expanded to 5 lakh units per year if market demand justifies the additional capacity.

Tesseract Will Lead Production at the New Plant
The Ultraviolette Tesseract electric scooter is expected to be the first major product manufactured at the new facility.
Until now, Ultraviolette has primarily been associated with performance-oriented electric motorcycles. The Tesseract represents an important shift because electric scooters address a much larger volume opportunity in India’s two-wheeler market.
The proposed capacity of 2.5 lakh units annually indicates that Ultraviolette is preparing for a significant increase in production compared with its current volumes.
The Hosur facility will not be limited to scooters, either. Its manufacturing infrastructure is being designed to accommodate a broader portfolio of future products, potentially covering:
- Sports motorcycles
- Street motorcycles
- Cruisers
- Crossovers
- Electric scooters
However, the company has not yet provided details regarding the construction schedule, plant commissioning date or exact timeline for Tesseract production.
Bengaluru Plant to Remain Operational
The new Hosur facility will supplement rather than replace Ultraviolette’s existing manufacturing operations in Bengaluru.
The company has confirmed that its Bengaluru plant will continue to operate even after the BIGGA Factory becomes operational. This will give Ultraviolette additional manufacturing capacity while allowing its existing facility to continue supporting current operations.
According to the company, the expansion is intended to create the production scale required to serve a larger customer base in India and support its international ambitions.
Ultraviolette Co-founder and CEO Narayan Subramaniam has described the next stage of the company’s journey as one focused on scaling the foundation it has built around technology, performance and product development.
The new facility is expected to provide the manufacturing backbone needed for the Tesseract and upcoming products.
Why Hosur Makes Sense for Ultraviolette
The choice of Hosur is closely linked to the region’s established automotive ecosystem.
Located close to Bengaluru, Hosur offers access to a mature network of component suppliers, manufacturing companies and skilled workers. Its proximity to Ultraviolette’s existing R&D operations is another advantage.
This geographical combination could make coordination between research and development, suppliers and manufacturing more efficient while potentially reducing transportation and logistical complexities.
Ultraviolette Co-founder and CTO Niraj Rajmohan has highlighted the area’s automotive ecosystem, supply-chain network and proximity to the company’s R&D base as key considerations behind the location.
Advanced Automation to Be Used Inside the Factory
Ultraviolette intends to make the BIGGA Factory a technology-driven manufacturing facility.
The plant will use Industry 4.0 systems, automation and digital quality-control processes to monitor production and maintain consistency as volumes increase.
Among the technologies planned for the facility are:
- Collaborative robots for welding, sorting and assembly
- Automated mistake-proofing during assembly
- Vision-based inspection systems
- Real-time production monitoring
- Digital quality-management systems
- Automated process-control systems
- Manufacturing Execution System for production tracking and traceability
The use of these systems should allow Ultraviolette to maintain manufacturing precision while scaling production to significantly higher volumes.
Every Vehicle to Undergo Testing Before Dispatch
The proposed factory will also feature a dedicated test track.
Ultraviolette plans to use the track to evaluate vehicles manufactured at the facility before they are dispatched. This should provide an additional layer of quality validation as production volumes increase.
The company has also described the BIGGA Factory as a green manufacturing facility. However, specific details regarding renewable-energy integration, water conservation or emissions-reduction initiatives have not yet been revealed.
New Factory Could Create Around 2,000 Jobs
The Hosur project is expected to generate approximately 2,000 employment opportunities during its initial phase.
Ultraviolette expects the workforce requirement to increase over the following five years as manufacturing operations expand and the plant moves towards higher production volumes.
Beyond direct employment, the project could also create additional opportunities within the surrounding automotive ecosystem. Component suppliers, logistics providers, maintenance companies and other supporting businesses could benefit from increased activity generated by the new facility.
BIGGA Factory Could Strengthen Ultraviolette’s Export Plans
Ultraviolette’s ambitions extend beyond the Indian market.
The company has already started expanding its electric motorcycle business into international markets, including several European countries. Additional manufacturing capacity in Hosur could therefore support both domestic demand and future export requirements.
The new factory could also allow Ultraviolette to move beyond its relatively limited-volume performance motorcycle portfolio and establish a manufacturing base capable of producing multiple vehicle categories at significantly higher volumes.
What the BIGGA Factory Means for Ultraviolette
The proposed Hosur facility represents an important step in Ultraviolette’s transition from a performance-focused EV manufacturer into a company targeting a much broader market.
A planned 2.5 lakh-unit annual capacity, expandable to 5 lakh units, gives the company considerably more room to scale. The Tesseract will initially be at the centre of this expansion, while the factory is expected to accommodate several future products.
The success of the plan will ultimately depend on several factors, including the timely development of the facility, consumer response to the Tesseract, successful introduction of future models and the expansion of Ultraviolette’s sales and service network.
If these pieces fall into place, the BIGGA Factory could become a key manufacturing base for Ultraviolette’s next stage of growth in India and overseas markets.
