Ultraviolette Raises $85 Million to Scale Production, Expand Its EV Portfolio and Enter the US

Ultraviolette has secured $85 million in fresh funding as the Bengaluru-based electric vehicle manufacturer prepares for its next phase of expansion. The capital will be used to increase production, develop new electric vehicle platforms and support the company’s international plans.

The investment round has been led by Yali Capital and TDK Ventures, with existing investors also participating. Lip-Bu Tan, chairman of Walden International, has joined the company as an adviser as part of the latest funding round.

Ultraviolette currently sells the F77 and X-47 Crossover motorcycles and is preparing to expand into new segments with the Tesseract electric scooter and Shockwave enduro motorcycle.

Ultraviolette has not disclosed the company’s valuation, the individual contributions from investors or the ownership percentages associated with the funding round.

From Performance Motorcycles to a Wider EV Line-Up

The latest investment comes as Ultraviolette moves beyond its existing performance-oriented motorcycle portfolio.

The company plans to use the fresh capital to increase production of the F77 and X-47 Crossover, while simultaneously preparing its upcoming products for the market.

One of the more significant additions is the Tesseract electric scooter. Moving into the scooter category could give Ultraviolette access to customers with different daily-use requirements compared with its current motorcycle-focused portfolio.

Yali Capital founding managing partner Ganapathy Subramaniam has indicated that the Tesseract is expected to arrive early next year, pointing to an early 2027 launch timeframe. An exact launch date has not been announced.

The Shockwave, meanwhile, will introduce the company to the enduro motorcycle segment. Ultraviolette has not provided a specific launch or delivery timeline for the motorcycle as part of the funding announcement.

Expanding into additional segments will also require the company to scale its manufacturing, supply chain and after-sales operations alongside the product portfolio.

New Factory Planned for 5 Lakh Vehicles a Year

Ultraviolette is also working towards significantly increasing its manufacturing capabilities.

The company has previously announced plans for a new production facility with a planned capacity of up to 5 lakh vehicles per year.

This figure represents the facility’s intended maximum capacity and should not be interpreted as Ultraviolette’s current production volume or a sales projection.

The key challenge will be scaling production in line with the rollout of new models and market demand. The funding announcement does not provide a detailed timeline for commissioning the facility or reaching its planned capacity.

As volumes increase, areas such as quality control, component availability, spare parts and service infrastructure will also become increasingly important.

Investment in Next-Generation EV Technology

A portion of the new capital will go towards the development of future electric vehicle platforms.

Ultraviolette says it has developed in-house expertise across areas including battery systems, power electronics, vehicle architecture and intelligent software.

Its engineering capabilities cover battery architectures ranging from 48V to 400V, allowing the company to develop platforms suited to different vehicle requirements, including performance, range, thermal management and packaging.

Using common engineering and technology foundations across multiple products could allow Ultraviolette to support a broader model range while sharing development capabilities. However, the company has not specified how much of the $85 million investment will be allocated to platform development or quantified any potential cost benefits.

The stated 48V–400V range also does not indicate any additional production model beyond the vehicles already announced.

United States Expansion Planned for 2027

Ultraviolette says its products are currently available in India and 20 European countries. The company now plans to extend its international footprint further, with a US market entry targeted for 2027.

The expansion strategy also includes plans for markets in Latin America and Southeast Asia.

Details regarding the US launch, including the models that will be offered, pricing and distribution partners, have not yet been announced.

Entering the US will require Ultraviolette to address regulatory approvals, distribution, servicing and customer support in addition to establishing demand for its products. These requirements will need to be managed alongside the company’s expansion in India and its upcoming product launches.

What the New Funding Means for Ultraviolette

The $85 million investment comes at a stage when Ultraviolette is moving from a relatively focused motorcycle portfolio towards a broader electric vehicle business.

The company is simultaneously working on higher production capacity, two new vehicle categories, next-generation EV technology and expansion into additional international markets.

While the funding provides capital for these initiatives, the announcement does not specify the detailed spending allocation, production ramp-up schedule or US market strategy. The progress of the Tesseract and Shockwave launches, manufacturing expansion and international rollout will therefore determine how the company’s next phase develops.
