Kia India has introduced an extended high-voltage battery warranty for the Carens Clavis EV, giving eligible private buyers coverage for up to 15 years without a kilometre restriction.
The revised warranty programme is applicable to Carens Clavis EVs retailed from August 1, 2026 onwards. Under the new policy, the first private owner receives high-voltage battery coverage for 15 years, regardless of the distance travelled during that period.
The update addresses one of the key concerns associated with long-term EV ownership, particularly for customers who cover high annual kilometres.
15-Year Battery Coverage for the First Owner
Kia’s definition of “lifetime” in this programme refers to a 15-year warranty period for the vehicle’s first private owner. Unlike the earlier warranty, there is no kilometre ceiling attached to this coverage.
As a result, a first owner covering 20,000 km, 30,000 km or even higher annual running will remain covered for the high-voltage battery throughout the specified 15-year period, subject to the manufacturer’s warranty conditions.
The coverage varies depending on ownership and usage:

Kia’s warranty information specifically excludes vehicles used for commercial purposes from the lifetime battery warranty programme.
How Much Has the Warranty Been Extended?
The new policy represents a significant change from the original battery warranty offered with the Carens Clavis EV.
Previously, Kia provided an 8-year or 1,60,000 km warranty for the high-voltage battery. The revised programme for eligible first owners extends the maximum duration to 15 years while removing the 1,60,000 km restriction.
It is worth noting that the battery warranty and overall vehicle warranty are separate. The Carens Clavis EV continues to have a 3-year/unlimited-kilometre standard vehicle warranty.
Earlier Buyers Can Also Opt for the New Coverage
Customers who bought their Carens Clavis EV before the new warranty came into effect are not necessarily left out.
Eligible private owners whose vehicles were retailed before August 1, 2026 can move to the new lifetime battery warranty programme by paying a one-time administrative charge of ₹3,400.
The upgrade remains subject to a vehicle evaluation as well as Kia’s applicable terms and conditions.
This allows eligible existing customers to access the extended battery protection instead of remaining limited to the original 8-year/1,60,000 km coverage.
Removing the Kilometre Cap Is a Major Change
The unlimited-kilometre aspect of the revised warranty could be particularly relevant to private owners with substantial annual running.
Under the previous warranty, the 1,60,000 km limit could potentially be reached well before the eight-year period expired.
For example:
- At 25,000 km per year, 1,60,000 km would be reached in approximately 6.4 years.
- At 30,000 km per year, the same distance would be reached in around 5.3 years.
With the revised programme, the first owner’s battery coverage is no longer cut short because of mileage during the 15-year warranty period, provided all other warranty conditions are met.
Therefore, the update changes both the duration and mileage ceiling of the battery protection rather than simply adding a few years to the existing warranty.
Carens Clavis EV: Battery, Range and Powertrain Details
Kia offers the Carens Clavis EV with two battery pack options.
The 42kWh Standard Range versions have an ARAI-certified range of up to 404 km, while models equipped with the larger 51.4kWh Extended Range battery offer a claimed range of up to 490 km.
The smaller battery option is paired with a 135hp electric motor, while the larger battery variant develops 171hp. Both configurations use a front-wheel-drive layout.
Depending on the variant, the electric MPV is available with six- and seven-seat configurations.
Battery Warranty Works Alongside Kia’s BaaS Programme
The extended battery coverage forms part of Kia’s broader approach to EV ownership in India. The company also offers a Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) option for the Carens Clavis EV, and Kia says the two programmes can operate alongside each other.
The Kia Syros EV also receives a lifetime high-voltage battery warranty, indicating that longer-term battery protection is becoming an important element of Kia’s EV strategy.
However, buyers should distinguish between the battery warranty and the warranty covering other components of the vehicle, as the 15-year coverage specifically relates to the high-voltage battery.
What Happens to the Warranty After Resale?
The ownership condition is an important part of the new programme.
The 15-year/unlimited-kilometre warranty is intended for the first private owner and does not remain attached to the vehicle in the same form after resale.
If the Carens Clavis EV changes hands, the second owner receives high-voltage battery coverage of 8 years or 1,60,000 km, whichever occurs first, as per Kia’s stated terms.
Therefore, buyers considering a used Carens Clavis EV should check the vehicle’s warranty status and applicable coverage rather than assuming that the original 15-year/unlimited-kilometre benefit automatically transfers to them.

Kia’s revised battery warranty gives eligible first-time private owners a considerably longer period of protection, while removing the earlier mileage ceiling.
